lying there face down in the sand

along the coast in his

red shirt, blue shorts, small black shoes

somebody’s sweet child,

their son, lifeless

washed ashore from

their struggle against

immeasurable odds to escape

a war ravaged torn country

only to find the same fate

that they tried so desperately

to flee from

and all some do is argue

over photos that show us

what we have become…
